darkness
the days are dark
it's strangling my mind
everywhere death seems
to grow, sprawl
like black lava
its path
pronouncements
of unbending
will
where's hope
has it run away
hiding
afraid
where's light
has it also
fled
overcome
the sky
can't find the sun
something is in the way
darkness
despair
death
three cousins
riding
trampling
the earth
what to do
we look at each other
for something
anything
look at the trees
the flowers
the babies crying
for their mother
the birds
keeping watch
over their little ones
light
hope
life
they're singing
for you and me
we forget to listen
this is life
like a stream
it flows
carrying life
death
in darkness and light
to time
to chance
to places
all
is
one
nothing new
mind you
we believe we can
with machines and makes
so different from the past
they're the same
to defy time
nature
we imagine and create
that is our gift
so gods we think we are
so darkness
despair
death
they remind us
Maker
we
aren't
